AAC Keys receives commands through your computer's serial port and translates them into keystrokes and mouse movements, giving you full control of your computer from another device such as an AAC system. (If your computer has only USB ports, an inexpensive adapter is available.)
AAC Keys implements the common GIDEI commands. AAC Keys has been confirmed to work with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4, 2000, XP, and Macintosh OS X operating systems. Users have reported that AAC Keys works with non-English characters.
AAC Keys can be downloaded and is being distributed at no cost. However, a donation to the AAC Institute would be put to good use in furthering the mission of the organization. Donations are tax deductible for donors in the United States since AAC Institute is a 501c3 not-for-profit charitable organization.

Version 1.3 was posted on this site 3 May 2005. Changes to Version 1.3 are

  • Changed the way strings were defined to make foreign language translations easier.

  • Fixed bug in Help menu for Windows 2000, the help screen wasn't launching.
  • Fixed bug so that characters get translated correctly according to the keyboard language setting.
  • Added an ASCII option in the configure menu to support older AAC devices.
