The Amigo Desktop Magnifier is a compact and lightweight vision-assist device. The Amigo unit is small enough to use on-the-go, allowing users to read newspapers, maps, magazines, books and other small-text-size materials at magnifications of 3.5X to 14X.
The Amigo, with its unique design, is very easy to use. The device is operated by placing it directly on the material to be read and magnification level can be adjusted with a turning knob. The unit utilizes digital magnification technology to make this possible. There is no need to lift the Amigo off the printed material to determine ideal magnification level.
The Amigo offers unprecedented levels of freedom and flexibility. Tom Perski, who lives with low vision and is director of Low Vision Service in Tucson, Ariz says, “I’ve tried many low-vision solutions and none compare to the Amigo.” According to Perski, the Amigo “is the smallest portable solution out there while, at the same time, it provides clear, crisp images and a wide field of view. It is easy to see wide areas of the material you are examining or reading as Amigo has a large 6.5-inch viewing screen and a large field-of-view. The unit’s screen-tilt feature also enables you to view images from multiple angles. The users can choose from the six viewing modes that Amigo offers: color, black text/white background, white text/black background, black and white, yellow text/blue background and yellow text/black background, based on their specific vision requirements.
Amigo’s freeze-frame feature facilitates the freezing of any image on the screen for closer examination at the click of a button. A price tag or map section can be closely examined using this feature.
The Amigo Desktop Magnifier comes with a writing stand, carrying case and removable battery with internal charger. In addition, for increased magnification, the Amigo can be connected to any TV.
The Amigo Desktop Magnifier is priced at $1,695 USD and carries a two-year warranty.
