Cambium Learning an education company serving the unique needs of the nation’s at-risk, minority and special student populations with learning tools, services and technologies, today announced that they have signed an agreement to acquire Kurzweil Educational Systems, Inc.

With their third acquisition in the last sixteen months, Cambium Learning continues to build an organization dedicated to having broad-reaching impact on the achievement of underserved student populations by delivering research-based and proven solutions. The addition of Kurzweil Educational Systems to its family of companies firmly positions Cambium Learning as the most comprehensive provider of educational solutions for the at-risk, minority and special education student population.

Kurzweil Educational Systems is widely recognized for its innovations in reading, writing and learning solutions for individuals with learning disabilities, and people who are blind or visually impaired. Kurzweil 3000, the company’s flagship product, is the most comprehensive and integrated reading, writing and learning software for assisting struggling students with learning and language difficulties such as dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and English Language Learning (ELL). Another key company product, Kurzweil 1000, fosters greater independence in students who are blind or visually impaired, enabling them to read, write and study along side their sighted peers.

“Today’s announcement is great news for our industry, our teachers and students, and educational systems everywhere,” said Michael Sokol, co-founder, president and CEO, Kurzweil Educational Systems, Inc. “We share Cambium Learning’s mission to support the struggling student and help schools meet the demands of No Child Left Behind. This new relationship will accelerate the growth of Kurzweil Educational Systems. We look forward to leveraging it to support more students, more quickly, and to further develop technologies that truly make a difference in students’ lives.”
