Digital Media Centre: Porset's New Multifunction Device
Published: Jun 25, 2007
The Digital Media Centre is a multifunction device that provides access to a variety of digital media. It is a comprehensive product that includes the functions of a Freeview digital TV set-top box, digital radio tuner and CD player and recorder.
Designed by Portset Systems, the product has a wide range of utilities such as access to electronic program guides in audio or onscreen formats, audio-described TV and DVD content, audio CDs and talking books in the Daisy format.
Television sets are optional in the use of this system. The built-in hard-drive enables users to record nearly 100 hours of TV programs and even pause live TV and resume watching from where they left off. Recording can also be done onto audio CDs.
People with partial vision can connect Digital Media Centre to a television set and access program guides either onscreen or through audio output in a recorded voice. The system facilitates adjustment of size and color of on-screen display to suit requirements of different users.
Graham Thomas, chief executive of Portset Systems, says the new features of Digital Media Centre were developed on the basis of user feedback. The product will be available for around $1688 USD.
