Dolphin Tutor Offers New Way to Overcome Learning Difficulties
Published: Jun 21, 2007
Dolphin developed a new software package, named Dolphin Tutor, to aid reading and writing for school children affected with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Dolphin Tutor, which allows users to choose the most suitable way to read and write, makes reading and writing easier for students with learning difficulties.
Dolphin Tutor adds a simple toolbar to the common Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel and Internet Explorer, and allows audio read-back from the PC screen. It can make the text on the screen more visible and has many text checking tools to ensure accuracy. Dolphin Tutor can read text from any part of a Microsoft Word document with high quality speech output. As the words are read out aloud, the corresponding text is highlighted. Individual letters, words and sentences can also be read back as you type. All of the on-screen text can be saved as audio file, to play back later.
Dolphin Tutor, combined with Microsoft Word, enhances learning capabilities of users with a number of additional functions. It contains a prediction dictionary, which can prompt words while you type on the basis of initial characters typed and the context of the sentence. It can recognize words with different spellings or meanings and similar pronunciation and suggest alternatives. The latest Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology incorporated in the Dolphin Tutor enables it to convert scanned documents into Microsoft Word text and read it back.

Steve Palmer, CEO of Dolphin says, “At Dolphin we aim to offer solutions that will improve educational standards for all children, enhancing their self-esteem and providing them with a better chance of future success. Dolphin Tutor offers a real solution for children and adults alike, to help them to read and write.” Dolphin Tutor
