European Assistive Technology Product Database EASTIN Launched
Published: Jun 22, 2007
EASTIN is a network of resources related to assistive technologies. This project has been developed between six European assistive technology resource databases, including Italy (SIVA), Denmark (HMIBASEN), Germany (REHADAT), Great Britain (DLFDATA), Spain (CEAPAT) and The Netherlands (Hulpmiddelen Wijzer).
There has been an 18 month trans-national project to put together the basics of a new, original framework. The EASTIN assistive technology information network pulls together six national partners devoted to making the database a resource for “finding products, services, regulations and good practices, useful for people with disabilities, health and social professionals, manufacturers and suppliers.”
The database categories are based on the ISO product classification and when searching it is possible to use the codes defined by the ISO 9999:2002 standard, a keyword or the name of the technology used in the device.
If working in English, some entries appear a little strange, as the products from databases in other languages have machine-translated descriptions.
