Gus PocketPC Communicator

Published: Jun 19, 2007

Gus Communication Inc. has created an application that converts pictograms into speech, allowing PocketPC and PDA users to use their devices for personal communications.

The Gus Communicator is equipped with image and word support. You can download a trial version of the Gus PocketPC communicator software from the supplier’s website. This program includes the following components: an editor to compose your personalized vocabularies, a simulator to emulate the ultimate configuration on your PC and graphical libraries comprising pictures, symbols and sample phrases.

Clinical tests in Europe showed that PDA communicators can be a very useful communication aid. Several European countries joined in a test with 21 people who suffer from aphasia. They all experienced considerable difficulties with a number of communicative situations that are really essential for them: going out to the library or a shop independently, for instance, or traveling by public transport. In these situations, the PDA communication tools have proven to be very helpful.
