Published: Jun 20, 2007

Microsoft recently released Voice Command for Windows Mobile 2003 and hopes to strengthen its position on the mobile operating system market. The speech control software for Pocket PC was first released in the US, with Europe following around 10 months later. Future Microsoft mobile developments can come from the new South Korean research facility.

Microsoft considers mobile technology a key market for the future, as evidenced by the recent opening of a South Korean development lab. The research and development lab starts with 30 engineers to work on new mobile applications, software and services, as well as Microsoft handsets. The new facility costs over $30 million USD over three years and could release new applications to battle again the strong Symbian platform.

Microsoft’s Voice Command could be the answer to the growing market share of Symbian technologies for accessibility products. ScanSoft and Code Factory both choose the Symbian platform for their mobile speech and magnification products. Dolphin Computer Access is the first supplier that focuses on Microsoft’s mobile platform with Hal for Pocket PC.
