Mobile Daisy Player Announced
Published: Jun 20, 2007The Spanish Code Factory recently announced the release of the Mobile Daisy Player. The software is an electronic book-reader for Symbian-based mobile phones. It allows both sighted and vision-impaired mobile users to take books with them wherever they go.
With Mobile Daisy Player no special hardware is needed because it works with existing Symbian-based mobile phones. The first release of the software supports books in audio, text-only or mixed formats, has quick and easy navigation of the book’s contents and allows user-assigned bookmarks to allow custom navigation. A Windows installation utility is also included, allowing users to create installation files from downloaded books or install smaller portions of a large book in order to save space on the mobile phone.
Using books in the standard DAISY format, Mobile Daisy Player gives access to a wide range of electronic texts on almost any topic. The simple navigation system provides quick and easy access to any portion of a book.
The DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) format was designed to make books accessible to those with print disabilities, as well as sighted users who simply want a standard way to take books with them wherever they go. The format allows for books containing text, audio data, or a combination of both. Mobile Daisy Player supports all these formats, allowing users to access the widest possible variety of electronic books.
Code Factory says that the “Mobile Daisy Player is currently under development, and will be available soon in a variety of languages.”
