MyReader Recognize and Control Text

Published: Jun 20, 2007

Pulse Data Europe introduces the MyReader 600, the first auto-reader with letter recognition software for low-vision users. This low-vision reader can scan an entire page and present the text in column, row or word layout with different color settings.

The MyReader low-vision reader is equipped with SmartSense technology by Pulse Data International’s Research and Development team. SmartSense enables MyReader to recognize and control the text in documents it. It also enables the MyReader to distinguish letters, words and sentences from the background and present it in different formats to the user. Although this sounds like Optical Character Recognition (OCR) SmartSense does not recognize the letters but only the letter shape.

Another advantage is the fact that the page does not have to be moved by the user, but is loaded into the system in a single pass. A remote control scroll function allows the user to determine at which speed the words, sentences or paragraphs appear on the screen.

Nigel Evens of Pulse Data Europe says, “It is a product unique to this market. We are very happy using SmartSense technology.” Pulse Data estimates the price of the MyReader 600 at about $6,000 USD.
