HumanWare has built some remarkable new concepts into myReader. It has set a new standard for others in the video magnifier market, as now the reading of documents can be customized to this level.

Some of the most significant features of myReader include its ergonomics and transportability. It can capture and reformat text documents digitally, which can make reading long documents much easier than it would with an x-y table. myReader and its features and functions have been well described in the accompanying documentation that is accessible for many with low vision also.

Two of the most notable areas that myReader needs improvement are the lack of a clear focus and the inability to reach high magnification in full color mode. Full color should have just as much focus as all other color settings, and the sharp focus should remain constant as the level of magnification increases.

Humanware MyReaderThere is also an issue of shaky letters on the screen, when using automatic scrolling in the viewing mode and myReader with a PC. It would also be better if myReader had the ability to capture less-straightforward text accurately. It would also be helpful if document capture time was reduced from approximately 10 seconds and the ability to capture and save multiple pages at once was added. The low humming sound created by the fan can sometimes be annoying.

Considering all things, myReader is a good option mainly to read multipage documents or for lengthy sessions of reading straightforward text. However, if a user needs magnification for proofreading, filling out forms, or viewing three-dimensional objects, other devices may offer better services. The text-reformatting feature of myReader is a drawback. The retail price of myReader from HumanWare is $4,995 USD.
