No More Searching for the Mouse Cursor

Published: Jun 20, 2007

There’s a great new solution for users that have a hard time finding the cursor on the screen. Magnifying programs such as SuperNova and ZoomText already offer this functionality, but for a price. A new product, called CrossLayer, marks the cursor’s position on the screen clearly and simply – and for free.

A trainee at the Dutch institute Visio / Het Loo Erf (national center for the visually impaired) developed the CrossLayer program to help their clients and the visually impaired all over the world. The program indicates the mouse cursor’s position by means of a horizontal and vertical line across the screen and image around the cursor. The lines’ and image’s color and level of transparency are fully adjustable as well as the image around the cursor. In addition, the mouse cursor is easily adjusted to the user’s wishes. For example, it has a timer function which makes the lines disappear when the mouse is not moving.

CrossLayer is an excellent solution for all users that occasionally lose mouse cursor. The visually impaired benefit from this software greatly. The software is available through an Open Source license and can be found one the programmer’s website.
