Review of MicroPoint Mouse Alternative
Published: Jun 20, 2007MicroPoint is a miniature-mouse alternative that can handle all computer screen movements without moving more than one inch. The mouse is mounted on a 4.3 inch squared platform and is controlled with only one finger. Is this the solution for RSI?
The MicroPoint from Altra is easy to install on any Windows computer but the additional software is only working on a Windows 95, 98 or ME machine. Our Windows 2000 of Windows XP machine did not accept the additional software Altra uses to control the three mouse buttons on top of the MicroPoint. There are no updates of the product software to patch this.
The one finger control works smoothly on a PS/2 or COM port and is easily installed. The mouse control feels different with MicroPoint and only the front button can be reached without moving the hand on the device. This makes it hard to control the other two buttons without moving the MicroPoint off the location. After working with MicroPoint several days we where happy that we got our own mouse back. A opposed to what the MicroPoint intended to do, the finger control is hard and tiring on the hand and wrist.
For everyone that needs a small mouse-like solution for RSI, we suggest to keep looking for other alternatives than the MicroPoint.
