Samsung Introduces Speech Recognition on Mobile Phone

Published: Jun 20, 2007

Two innovative Samsung mobile phones were introduced at the CES conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The phones can automatically convert speech into text and the new technology - called VoiceMode - is incorporated in the new Samsung P207 and A890 phones.

This is the first time that consumers can dictate messages directly into the mobile phone according to Peter Skarzynski, vice-president of Samsung. The A890 is equipped with QuickPhrase, a technology that allows the user to send preprogrammed text messages with a speech command like ‘Call me’ or ‘Will call you later.’ The addressee can be added with speech recognition as well.

The P207 offers more advanced features where VoiceMode technology can be used for full dictation of a message. This technology is one of the focus areas of Samsung because the miniaturization of the mobile phone and their keypads should be compensated with technology that enables users to use the phones with the same comfort.

The new Samsung mobile phone will be released in the USA around February 2005 and information on the price is not yet available.
