The Sign Smith Illustrated Dictionary Volume I is designed for everyone who wants to learn American Sign Language (ASL). Choose one of nine characters with different personalities and ethnic backgrounds. Characters fidget while waiting and show emotions, like impatience or happiness. Every word in the dictionary is represented by a picture, used in a sentence and signed by your selected character.
Click on a letter to jump to words that start with that letter or choose from 20 categories, like Activities, Adjectives and Animals. If a word has more than one meaning, the user picks which sense of the word is intended.
The Sign Smith Illustrated Dictionary is ASL, Signed English (SE) and fingerspell enabled. The Illustrated Dictionary includes the 500 signs most commonly included in beginning ASL courses. Any word that does not have a sign will be fingerspelled by the character. When new volumes of the Illustrated Dictionary become available each new volume will automatically combine with the existing volumes to form a single, larger dictionary.
