Speech Recognition on the Treo 650
Published: Jun 20, 2007VoiceSignal was introduced on the palmOne Treo 650 smartphone. The Treo Voice Dialing by VoiceSignal application includes speaker-independent name dialing and digit dialing by speaking the number or name naturally. Though the technology was not specifically introduced as an assistive technology, users with physical challenges that prevent them from dialing effectively will find this device to be very useful.
The name-dialing feature allows a user to dial a name stored in the Palm OS contact list without any training. By combining speech recognition, audio and visual prompts, and text-to-speech confirmation, the VoiceSignal solution lets users control dialing features in a true multimodal fashion. This makes it possible for users to initiate, verify and complete a call without having to look at the display, making it easier, safer and more enjoyable for consumers to use their device.
“VoiceSignal, the market leader in mobile voice recognition, is excited to be chosen by palmOne for the Treo 650 smartphone,” said Rich Geruson, CEO of VoiceSignal. “Our solution allows Treo 650 customers to be even more efficient in their busy lives by delivering an application that greatly simplifies the way consumers interact with handheld devices. Users can dial a name or number in one step with one voice command,” commented Geruson.
Page Murray, Vice President of Marketing at palmOne added, “We know our customers expect us to deliver the most advanced and user friendly experience possible, and by offering VoiceSignal’s one-step speech solution to Treo 650 users we believe we are meeting that challenge.”
