SpinVox Starts New Mobile Phone Service That Converts Voicemail into Text

Published: Jun 21, 2007

A new mobile phone service, provided by The Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People and mobile service firm SpinVox, converts voicemail messages into text messages and is being tested in the UK. The service is free during the testing period and is expected to be available throughout the UK within a short time.

A next generation mobile textphone from RNID, with a new interactive texting service, is now available in Britain. The state of the art technology used in the phone enables people with hearing impairment to communicate easily in real time, while moving.

Standard Voicemail

The user can personalize the greeting, like standard voicemail, and dial in and read or listen to the messages.

Quick-Link

SpinVox’s smart Quick-Link system eliminates many of the unnecessary difficulties faced while listening a voicemail. The user can avoid tiresome voicemail menus and skip straight to any message by entering a simple Quick-Link after accessing the system.

Email Delivery

The user can receive voicemails as emails instead of texts, so that a record of important messages can be maintained and accessed from anywhere.

Message Notification

SpinVox will send the user a notification text if a voicemail message could not be converted—because it’s in a foreign language or inaudible— so that the user can dial in and listen.
