Sweden has a history of delivering innovative assistive technologies and with the new MyTobii P10 is again proves the Scandinavian country has some surprises for the AT field. This new AAC eye controlled communication system can greatly improve the lives of people with Cerebral Palsy, ALS and many others.
Tobii Technology located in Sweden and in the US, are known for there eye tracking solutions that are able to track eye movement even if the users has problems keeping there head movement under control. The combination of eye tracking and positioning the eye in dynamic situation is one of the features that very little eye trackers offer and since the release of the MyTobii there are view assistive technology devices with this feature.
At CSUN 2006 Tobii Technology presented the MyTobii P10. This new
eye tracking system that has an fully integrated computer and can be directly used as a full computer system, with eye-tracking, 1,3 Ghz processor, harddisk etc. The Windows XP driven computer has a 15 inch touch-screen, cd-player and has the size just over a large 17 inch TFT screen. The wide range of languages the system comes with, could make the MyTobii P10 a solution for the many people with Cerebral Palsy, ALS, High level spinal injuries and Multi Sclerosis.
The MyTobii P10 will be available in the US for $16,000 USD and comes with integrated software packadges like: Speaking Dynamically Pro from Mayer Johnson, VS Communicator from Viking Software, The Grid from Sensory Software and many other titles.
