Touch Graphics Releases Talking Tablet 2
Published: Jun 23, 2007
The next generation Talking Tactile Tablet 2 works the same as the original version, but is smaller, lighter and more ergonomic. Built out of solid steel and aluminum, it is also nearly indestructible. It connects to a PC or Mac computer with a single USB cable.
The tablet, called Talking Tactile Tablet, is an inexpensive and rugged computer peripheral device. Nicknamed “TTT,” the tablet is designed for use as a “viewer” for audio/tactile materials. The tablet consists of an off-the-shelf computer touch-screen connected to a PC via a USB cable. A hinged weighted frame can be opened and closed by a user with limited manual dexterity and serves to hold a selected tactile graphic sheet motionless in place against the touch-sensitive surface.
The finger pressure of a user on a tactile sheet is transmitted through the flexible PVC material. The touch-screen communicates the x and y coordinates and transmits the information to the computer. The computer is able to provide identifying audio feedback to the user, even the position of each pick against pre-defined hotspots. The multimedia tool includes tactile figures such macromedia Director and an unlimited range of sophisticated interactive software can be produced for use on the TTT platform. Â
