Vcom3D Releases ASL Animations Volume 2
Published: Jun 21, 2007Vcom3D Inc. announced the second volume of its collection of animated GIFs and MOVs, named ASL Animations, which can be used in multimedia and literacy software programs that teachers use in classrooms. Designed to support visual learning of students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, ASL Animations is the answer to the long quest for sign language resources that can be easily integrated into software programs. Teresa Smith, teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind said, "ASL Animations has such huge potential. It is so nice to finally have a sign language resource that I do not have to make myself."
Students of all ages, with learning disabilities or language delay, can benefit from visual support. Students with hearing impairment can particularly benefit from sign symbols associated with text. Movement has an important role in sign language, giving animations an edge over still images in representing signs. Animations represent signs more accurately and give students greater understanding of the concept.
ASL Animations allow Images and movies to be used in picture-adapted digital storybooks, vocabulary study activities and adapted curriculum activities. Janet Calvert, coordinator at the Bruce Street School for the deaf in Newark said, “ASL Animations not only makes learning fun, it helps my students develop language and skills across the curriculum while producing exciting technology projects. Because ASL Animations is so easy-to-use, students of all ages can easily access its learning and technology power.”
Compatible with popular educational software programs like Clicker and ClozePro by Crick Software, IntelliPics Studio by IntelliTools, My Own Bookshelf by SoftTouch, Kurzweil 3000 for Windows by Kurzweil Educational Systems, and PowerPoint by Microsoft, ASL Animations GIFs and MOVs work with any Web page or multimedia program that supports animations. Valerie Laird, CEO of Crick Software said, “ASL Animations is the only animated sign language library available that brings the student’s writing to life in the language they know best.”
