Web Site to Aid Visually Impaired Mississippians Inaccessible
Published: Jun 20, 2007A new Web site and a new law are improving economic development opportunities for Mississippians who are blind or visually impaired, but the Web site turned to be inaccessible to the blind.
The Website, www.msblind.org , features products furnished by people who are blind or visually impaired. But their Web pages are not section 508 compliant and can take up to six minutes of reading with a Braille display.

Dee Hey, Deputy Director of Sales and Marketing of the Mississippi Industries for the Blind said in a response: “Not being familiar with the 508 law or computer capabilities or anyone sharing with me that a Web site could be accessed by JAWS is truly an oversight on my part. We employed a computer design firm last week to make our site 508 complaint. We hope to have this corrected shortly.”
