Which Blogs are Accessible to the Blind?

Published: Jun 20, 2007

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) tested several blog sites on their accessibility for the blogger as well as the visitor.

The report is online and their main conclusion is that: “the inaccessibility of the current blogging experience represents more than just a lack of access to relevant information for blind computer users. Blogs are a rapidly growing avenue to self expression, a means of exchanging information with communities of like-minded peers, and even (as evidenced by the Micropersuasion Website) a potential source of employment. Though this world is still out of reach for many blind and low vision computer users, the good news is these problems are easy to fix using some basic Web accessibility tips.”

The AFB found Blogger very inaccessible from the bloggers’ point of view, a blind visitor on the other hand can often manage to find their way around Blogger. The AFB found that Bloglines www.bloglines.com was more accessible for the visually impaired blogger as well as the visitor.
