World Bank to Launch Assistive Devices
Published: Jun 21, 2007The Silliman University-World Bank (SU-WB) and Knowledge for Development Center (KDC) in the Philippines will launch assistive devices for disabled people. These devices that are in the form of software and hardware from the World Bank, provides people with disabilities (PWDs) easy access to information in books and the Internet free of charge.
According to SU Information Officer Mark Garcia, “The availability of these devices will make the KDC known as an accessible center for PWDs”.
After the launch, the KDC will sponsor training on AD and disabilities sensitivity. This will be conducted by Mr. Tony Llanes, president of Adaptive Technology for the Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired. The selected group of participants includes library staff, guidance counselors, and SPED teachers from the public schools.
